The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued an important notice for candidates with disabilities appearing for CTET 2026. The board has clarified the rules for availing the facility of a scribe and compensatory time during the examination. Only eligible candidates under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPWD) Act, 2016 will be allowed these facilities. Candidates must carry the required certificates in the prescribed format to the examination centre. CBSE has also informed that visually impaired candidates will get question papers in large font. Who can avail scribe facility
CBSE has stated that only candidates with benchmark disabilities under Sections 2(r) and 2(s) of the RPWD Act, 2016 can claim the scribe facility. The candidate must submit a disability certificate in the prescribed format along with a valid UDID card issued by the competent authority.Candidates who have difficulty in writing must produce a certificate from a government medical authority stating that the person has limitation in writing and that a scribe is essential for the examination.For candidates in the category of blindness, locomotor disability (both arms affected), and cerebral palsy, the scribe facility will be provided if they choose to avail it.
Rules regarding qualification of scribe
The qualification of the scribe must be one class lower than the minimum qualification required for the post for which the exam is conducted. However, the scribe must at least be matriculate or above.Candidates who require a scribe will be allowed to meet the scribe for a 20-minute interaction session one hour before the examination at the exam centre. This is to ensure suitability.
Compensatory time and question paper format
As per the Office Memorandum dated August 10, 2022, issued by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, eligible candidates will be given compensatory time of not less than 50 minutes per hour of examination.CBSE will provide a separate question paper in large font for visually impaired candidates. The normal question paper will also be available at the centre. Visually challenged candidates can choose either version.Candidates must bring the original disability certificate in the proper format to the examination centre. If the certificate is not produced before the centre superintendent before the start of the examination, the scribe and compensatory time facility will not be granted.
