Ahead of PM's Punjab visit, Navjot Sidhu's wife quits Congress; calls it 'party where no promising leader is heard'
Suspended Congress leader Navjot Kaur Sidhu quits party

AMRITSAR: A day ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi‘s visit to Punjab, Navjot Kaur Sidhu, namesake wife of former Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu, praised the PM in social media posts on Saturday, attacked those opposing his visit, and announced that she had quit the Congress, calling it a party “where no promising leader is heard”.Navjot Kaur, who said she “welcomed Modiji with loving hearts”, was suspended by the Congress on Dec 8 last year for remarks against the party, including an allegation that “Rs 500 crore in a suitcase” was needed to secure the Punjab chief minister’s post. In her posts on X, she also referred to a “homecoming”, fuelling speculation about the Sidhus returning to the BJP, though there was no official confirmation.

“When the head of our country comes to give something to our state, political thieves come together to disrupt his homecoming. He has earned the position and power to give something great to Punjab. Be grateful,” she posted. On the eve of Modi’s visit, the former MLA praised his tenure as Gujarat chief minister, citing accountability, transparency and effective use of central funds, while contrasting it with what she called corruption and policy failures under the AAP-led Punjab govt. She again urged people to “welcome Modiji with loving hearts”.She also launched a sharp attack on Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, who suspended her, calling him “incapable and corrupt” and accusing him of destroying the Congress from within and indulging in selective disciplinary action. She alleged that while she was suspended, senior Congress leaders who challenged the party leadership were spared.
