It now applies across the entire Mac lineup, from MacBook Air to Mac Pro.
How the new checkout actually works on the Apple Store
Here’s the deal: there’s no longer a landing page showing a handful of ready-to-go Mac setups. Instead, clicking “Buy” drops you straight into a step-by-step configurator. For the MacBook Pro, that means picking your screen size first, then color, then display type, then chip. Each selection unlocks the next. Memory and storage get handled in a separate “Customizable Specs” section, where the tool will actually flag incompatible choices and nudge you toward compatible options automatically.
It’s a tighter, more guided experience — but not without friction. Some users have already pointed out that the configurator still surfaces RAM options that don’t match your selected chip, forcing an awkward backtrack. That’s a rough edge Apple will likely iron out.The timing is interesting. Apple is still sitting on the M5 Pro and M5 Max MacBook Pro refresh, and this store redesign could easily be groundwork for that launch. Cleaner checkout, fresh hardware — makes sense as a pairing.There’s also a less flattering read on this.
