South Africa receive massive boost ahead of T20 World Cup 2026

NEW DELHI: David Miller has been declared fit to play in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup starting from February 7 and this comes as good news for South Africa. The experienced batter had suffered an adductor muscle strain while playing for Paarl Royals in the recent SA20 league and he later went through a fitness test this week and he passed it successfully.Miller will join the South African squad on Sunday and the team will travel to Mumbai from OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg. Cricket South Africa confirmed the update on social media and shared their relief about his recovery.

The official handle of CSA said on X, “ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 Squad Update: Proteas Men’s batter David Miller has been medically cleared for next month’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 in India and Sri Lanka. Miller successfully underwent a fitness test this week following an adductor muscle strain sustained while playing for Paarl Royals during the Betway SA20. He will join the squad on Sunday when they depart for Mumbai from OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg.“Miller was rested during the ongoing T20I series against West Indies as he focused on recovery. Now, he is fully fit for his sixth T20 World Cup appearance. During the SA20 season four, he scored 196 runs in eight innings and maintained a strike rate of 148.48. He also registered a half-century with a best score of 71 not out.The 36-year-old is South Africa’s second-highest run-scorer in T20 internationals and he has made 2,630 runs in 133 matches. He has scored two centuries and eight fifties and he holds a strike rate above 140.Miller is expected to play a key finisher’s role in the batting order, and he brings experience along with Quinton de Kock. This tournament could be Miller’s last T20 World Cup ,and he will aim to help South Africa chase their first title. South Africa will begin their campaign against Canada on February 9, and they will also face Afghanistan, New Zealand, and the UAE in the group stage.
