INDORE: Ranjeet Singh, the renowned traffic policeman famous for his unique moonwalking style on the streets of Indore, was demoted by the police department following a departmental inquiry. The officer, who was serving as an Acting Head Constable, was stripped of his higher rank and returned to his original post of Constable. The disciplinary action stemmed from serious allegations levelled by a woman from Mumbai. She accused Singh of engaging in obscene social media chats and pressuring her to visit Indore to meet him. Following the initial complaint, Singh was removed from field duty and attached to the Police Lines to ensure an unbiased probe.Indore deputy commissioner of Police (Headquarters), Prakash Parihar, issued the formal order nullifying the previous promotion granted to Singh in March 2021. “There were some complaints against Ranjeet Singh, in which he was found guilty and thus, he was demoted,” DCP Parihar told TOI. While the specific details of the misconduct were not officially disclosed to the public, the order confirmed the cancellation of his acting charge based on the findings of the headquarters inquiry.Ranjeet Singh became a household name across India for transforming the mundane task of traffic management into a performance. His “Dancing Cop” persona earned him appearances on several television shows and invites to manage traffic in 7 other states, along with millions of followers on Facebook and Instagram.Despite his popularity and past accolades, the police department emphasised that all civil servants must maintain a high standard of dignified behaviour. The order cited specific points of the Madhya Pradesh Civil Services Conduct Rules regarding the cancellation of acting charges due to professional misconduct.
