Suriya’s much-awaited action drama ‘Karuppu’, directed by RJ Balaji, faced an unexpected delay on its release day, leaving fans across Tamil Nadu disappointed. The film was originally scheduled for a grand release with special 9 AM shows after getting permission from the Tamil Nadu government. However, several theatres suddenly cancelled or removed the morning shows at the last minute. Soon after, producer S. R. Prabhu officially announced that the 9 AM screenings had been cancelled due to “unavoidable reasons.” The sudden development created confusion among fans who had already booked tickets and planned first-day celebrations for the film.
Reason behind ‘Karuppu’ delay
As the confusion around the release continued, ETimes reached out to industry sources regarding the issue behind the delay. When we contacted Ruban Mathivanan of GK Cinemas, he said, “Financial issues, and no idea on the start.” Even though his statement confirmed the financial issues, the mystery of the film’s start continued.When we tried another source close to actor Suriya’s team, the source said to Etimes, “The producers are actively working to resolve the issue. If the ongoing discussions end positively, the shows are expected to begin either from 11 AM or at least from the afternoon schedules.”
Suriya fans react strongly after morning shows get cancelled
The delay has upset many Suriya fans, especially those who had taken leave from work and booked tickets in advance for the first-day first show. Social media platforms were filled with memes, reactions, and emotional posts from disappointed fans. Some fans wrote that they had waited for months to watch ‘Karuppu’ on opening day and were shocked to see theatres removing the show suddenly. Even after the disappointment, there were many who supported the team and believed that the matter would be sorted out soon. The strong fan reaction also showed the massive expectations surrounding the film before its release.

The song teasers that had been released online had already generated considerable buzz. Bookings for the film were reportedly very impressive until the problem with release came into play.
