‘Clothes torn': 2 women allege molestation, assault outside Delhi club

NEW DELHI: Two women were allegedly physically assaulted and molested by a group of men in southeast Delhi’s Nehru Place on Monday morning.According to police, one of the women is a native of Assam, while the other is from Bihar.According to police, a PCR call was received from the women in distress at the Kalkaji police station around 7 am. Police rushed to the spot, where the women said that they had been subjected to derogatory remarks and abuses, allegedly leading to a physical altercation between them and the accused.A senior police officer familiar with the case said that the heated altercation was sudden and lead to hurling of abuses. The clothes of the girls were also reportedly torn during the altercation. Reports have claimed that the quarrel had lead to racist remarks towards the woman from northeast India, however, the police officer denied the claim.Police said both women were moved to AIIMS, where their medical examinations were conducted. CCTV footage from nearby areas was analysed and witnesses, including passersby, were identified by cops. At least eight of these witnesses have been rounded up and questioned, leading to the identification of four accused.Police said raids are being conducted to trace and apprehend them. A case has been registered under sections 115 (voluntarily causing hurt), 74 (assault or criminal force to a woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 126 (wrongful restraint), 351 (criminal intimidation), 78 (stalking) and 3 (5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at the Kalkaji police station.(The victim’s identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
