Arvind Swamy recalls choosing Ayurveda over surgery when he was partially paralysed: ‘He made me walk in 3 days’
Actor Arvind Swamy, known for ‘Roja’ and ‘Bombay’, shared his recovery from partial paralysis after a 2005 spinal injury. He opted for Ayurvedic treatment over surgery, which he credits with enabling him to walk within three days. Swamy emphasized this was his personal experience and advised others to follow medical guidance, acknowledging the benefits of allopathy as well.

Arvind Swamy, who has won the hearts of cinephiles with his films ‘Roja’ and ‘Bombay’, recently recalled the time when he was partially paralysed. The actor revealed how he chose Ayurvedic treatment over the surgery that the doctor recommended to him. After starting the Ayurvedic treatment, he was able to walk in just three days. Arvind Swamy suffered from a spinal injury in 2005 that left him partially paralysed. The actor revealed how it took a physical and mental toll on him, even pushing him away from cinema. In a recent conversation during the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne, the ‘Bombay’ actor revealed how an Ayurvedic practitioner in Kerala helped him walk again. The actor also cautioned that while it has worked for him, others should stick to the medical advice. “He was bedridden following the injury. “This happened for a year and a half only because I made a choice not to have surgery.” Later, when he was about to agree to the surgery, he met an Ayurvedic practitioner from Kerala, who changed his life. “For one and a half years, I was in a lot of pain, and my mobility was affected, but in three days, he made me walk. It worked for me. I am not saying you should make choices based on my choices. I am just saying that this worked for me,” the actor said. Arvind Swamy also cautioned that while it is his personal experience, it should not influence others who are in a similar situation. “There is a lot of wisdom in allopathy also, and it has also worked for me.”Speaking about the mental toll, he added, “Because the ability to be able to deal with pain and immobility, I think, it is all in the mind, to a large extent.” He opened up about the point where he started to think, ‘Why me?’ On the work front, Arvind Swamy will next be seen in ‘Gandhi Talks’. Also featuring Vijay Sethupathi, Aditi Rao Hydari, and Siddharth Jadhav, the film is slated for release on January 30.
