C. Joseph Vijay began a new chapter in public life on Sunday as he took oath as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam founder assumed office after securing the backing of the VCK and IUML, which increased his support to 120 MLAs, two more than the required majority mark of 118 in the assembly.The actor-turned-politician officially entered Fort St. George as the state’s new leader. In his first address after assuming office, he announced that domestic consumers would receive free electricity for up to 200 units. The announcement was one of the first welfare measures introduced by his government.
The swearing-in ceremony turned into a major moment for the film industry, with actors and celebrities from across India taking to social media to celebrate Vijay’s remarkable journey from cinema superstar to Chief Minister.
