In an new development, Shahid Kapoor is set to lead a high-concept sci-fi romantic comedy directed by Amit Sharma, the filmmaker behind ‘Tevar’ (2015), ‘Lust Stories 2’ (2023) and Maidaan (2024). The film will follow a married couple on the brink of divorce who unexpectedly swap bodies after a failed scientific experiment, a premise that echoes the Italian film ‘Husband & Wife’ and has been described as a heartwarming comedy-drama with sharp wit and emotional depth. The female lead is yet to be finalised, with producers currently in discussions with both Kiara Advani and Janhvi Kapoor. The project is expected to go on floors in late 2026 with a mid-2027 theatrical release targeted.According to Variety India, the sci-fi comedy centres on a married couple heading toward divorce who are forced into each other’s lives, literally after a scientific experiment goes wrong and they swap bodies. Navigating each other’s daily routines generates the film’s comedy while simultaneously giving both characters a deeper appreciation of the other’s perspective.
The premise draws comparisons to the Italian film ‘Husband & Wife’ and sits thematically close to Shahid’s own 2024 hit ‘Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya’ — a sci-fi rom-com that performed strongly at the box office. Interestingly, Maddock Films is already developing a ‘TBMAUJ’ sequel, making this new project a complementary addition to what appears to be a deliberate Shahid-in-sci-fi-romance positioning.
Female lead of the film: Kiara Advani or Janhvi Kapoor?
The report also states that two names are currently in discussions for the film’s female lead. Kiara Advani, Kapoor’s ‘Kabir Singh’ co-star, would be a reunion of one of Bollywood’s most commercially successful recent pairings. Janhvi Kapoor would mark a first-time pairing with Shahid, a refreshing new on-screen pairing.

‘Cocktail 2’ is directed by Homi Adajania who helmed the beloved 2012 original starring Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone and Diana Penty. The sequel features Shahid Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna and Kriti Sanon in the lead roles, marking the first time Rashmika will share screen space with both Shahid and Kriti. The first song “Jab Talak” has already been released to a warm response.Like its predecessor, ‘Cocktail 2’ explores modern relationships, love and heartbreak, revisiting the original’s emotional themes through an entirely new set of characters.
