Anupam Kher reflects on his 55-year journey, says an actor’s face becomes a 'reservoir' of experience

Veteran actor Anupam Kher recently shared a thoughtful note on his decades-long journey in cinema, offering insight into how time and experience shape an actor’s craft. With over 55 years associated with acting, including more than 50 years as a professional, the actor spoke about how the passage of time transforms not just performances, but also the face of an artist.Sharing a black-and-white selfie on his Instagram accoubt, Anupam Kher reflected on how years of work and observation begin to reflect physically. “A FACE THAT HAS LIVED LIFE: I have been acting for more than 55 years now. Out of these, over 50 years have been as a professional actor.”He explained how expressions evolve naturally over time. “An actor’s face slowly stops being just a face. It becomes… a reservoir. A small twitch begins to mean something. A slight lift of the eyebrow carries a memory. A pause between two expressions holds a lifetime of observation.” Kher credited this transformation to what he described as “lived experience.” He wrote, “It has something to do with what we call ‘lived experience.’ The roles you’ve played…The people you’ve met…The emotions you’ve borrowed… and the ones you’ve truly felt.” Emphasising authenticity, he added, “All of it settles… gently… on your face. Yesterday, when I took this selfie, these were the thoughts that came to my mind. I thought I should share them with you. Jai Ho!”

Anupam Kher’s legacy built through iconic roles

Over the years, Kher has been part of several memorable films including ‘Saaransh’, ‘Karma’, ‘Daddy’ and ‘1942: A Love Story’. His reflections struck a chord with many, including Soni Razdan, who commented, “Wow. That’s so so true…,” while fans praised his honesty and enduring contribution to cinema.

So I chose the harder road,” he shared, describing the film as a search for something “real.” He also has upcoming projects like ‘Khosla Ka Ghosla 2’ and ‘Fauzi’, continuing to push boundaries even after decades in the industry.
