Janhvi Kapoor gets candid about drinking alcohol frequently after traumatic experience: 'Felt the need to get drunk'

Actress Janhvi Kapoor has opened up about a deeply personal chapter of her life in a candid conversation. The ‘Param Sundari’ star spoke honestly about her relationship with alcohol during a difficult period and the quiet but powerful realisation that made her stop and reflect. Let’s learn more about it.

Janhvi Kapoor opens up about drinking after trauma

On the podcast ‘Figuring Out’ with Raj Shamani, Janhvi Kapoor did not shy away from addressing the topic directly. She said, “I would not say I was addicted or I was abusing alcohol, but I was drinking frequently. And this was after a very traumatic experience in my life. I felt the need to just like, ‘I need to get drunk’.”The actress described how the drinking was a coping mechanism during what was clearly a turbulent time in her personal life.

Janhvi Kapoor reveals what made her reassess her habits

What made Janhvi reassess her habits was not a dramatic breaking point, but it was something far more subtle and visceral. She explained, “I didn’t like what it was doing to my body. I didn’t like how I was feeling when I was waking up. That feeling of a hangover – it gives me such an ick. It started…it was so weird. I could smell on myself a smell very familiar to someone in my life who struggled with addiction, and I would associate that smell with, ‘Okay, it’s not a good day’.”After she recognised that smell on herself, it served as a quiet but firm wake-up call.
