Manesar civic body to step up water conservation, plans revival of waterbodies
MCM commissioner Pradeep Singh holds a meeting with the civic body officials

Gurgaon: MCM has directed officials to prepare a framework for rainwater harvesting and step up water conservation efforts, with a focus on reviving natural waterbodies and preventing a water crisis. At a review meeting, commissioner Pradeep Singh asked engineering officials to conduct surveys and identify ways to collect and store rainwater across the municipal area. He said the plan should include creating clusters of villages where ponds can be developed for rainwater harvesting, with the option of adding water treatment facilities in the future.“There is a need for rainwater harvesting to improve groundwater levels and avoid a future water crisis. I have directed officials to develop a system for collecting and storing rainwater to raise water levels,” Singh said, adding that ponds should be developed in clusters of villages in a way that allows water treatment plants to be set up when required to supply water.“This would help improve water levels in Manesar in the coming years and reduce the risk of water scarcity. Village ponds should be deepened, as water recharge depends on them,” he said. While reviewing development works in the corporation area, the commissioner said civil works should be completed before the monsoon. He directed that all drains be cleaned to prevent waterlogging during the monsoon.Officials said estimates have been prepared for installing CCTV cameras in all villages in the corporation area. “There is a plan to create clusters of four to five villages and place CCTV control with the police station concerned to improve surveillance,” they said. The tender process for works should be placed before the MCM House and Finance and Contract Committee, the commissioner said. “Once approval is received, tenders should be issued and work assigned to agencies without delay,” he said.Meanwhile, engineering officials said tenders for several construction works were already issued in both divisions.
