Bihar’s registration department has achieved a significant revenue milestone, exceeding its target for 2025-26 and setting an ambitious Rs 10,000 crore goal for 2026-27. The department is embracing technology, aiming for a completely paperless registration process with digital signatures and mobile app integration. This initiative promises increased transparency and convenience, even allowing senior citizens to register properties from home.

Patna: After surpassing its revenue target in 2025-26, Bihar’s registration department has set a higher target of Rs 10,000 crore for the financial year 2026-27. The department collected Rs 8,403 crore in 2025-26, achieving 101% of its target of Rs 8,250 crore.Deputy chief minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav, who also heads the prohibition, excise and registration department, described the achievement as a major milestone and said it reflects steady growth and strong performance in revenue generation. He was addressing a press conference at Soochana Bhawan on Monday to present the department’s achievements.Yadav said revenue collection in 2025-26 was significantly higher than Rs 7,648 crore collected in 2024-25, marking an increase of Rs 754 crore. He also noted the department had collected Rs 4,257 crore in 2020-21, indicating a sharp rise in revenue in recent years.He attributed the record collection to a robust working mechanism, technological innovation, effective monitoring and the dedicated efforts of officials and employees. Encouraged by this performance, the department has now set an ambitious target of Rs 10,000 crore for 2026-27.Outlining future plans, Yadav said the state cabinet has approved the Bihar Registration Rules-2026 to make the registration process completely paperless. He said steps have already been initiated to ensure document registration is carried out without physical paperwork.Under the new rules, parties will no longer need to prepare documents physically, and registrations will be completed digitally using digital signatures of both parties and officials. The move is expected to reduce delays, improve convenience and increase transparency.Yadav said old documents will also be fully digitised. Human interface will be minimised, while transparency will be strengthened through a mobile app and GIS technology for determining land categories.He added senior citizens aged 80 years and above will be able to complete registration of land, plots, flats and other properties from their homes. He said 2.34 crore documents from 1995 to 2026 have already been digitised, and the remaining work will be completed during the current financial year.
