The 2026 NFL Draft ended without Diego Pavia hearing his name. That alone raised eyebrows. Within a few hours, the Vanderbilt quarterback trended for another reason. A screenshot of an alleged Instagram Story began circulating online, claiming he took a vulgar shot at the NFL.The current situation made it even worse. Fans had already started questioning why a player with his college résumé slipped through all seven rounds. The viral post, although unconfirmed, added fuel to an already tense situation around Diego Pavia and his unexpected draft outcome.

Viral post storm and rare draft outcome put Diego Pavia in the spotlight

Diego Pavia entered the 2026 NFL Draft with strong credentials. He won SEC Offensive Player of the Year and finished second in Heisman Trophy voting. His final season at Vanderbilt included 3,539 passing yards, 29 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. On paper, that profile usually earns a late-round pick at minimum.Yet, all 32 teams passed on him. Soon after the draft ended, a screenshot went viral. It showed an alleged Instagram Story that read “F**k the NFL / I write my own path.” The post spread quickly across X and fan forums. Many users reacted instantly, linking it to long-standing concerns about his attitude. “Precisely why he was not drafted. Poor attitude and arrogant,” one fan wrote on X as the image gained traction.Another fan chimes in, “Exhibit A, why no one wants him.”However, there was a catch. The post was not confirmed. No verified account linked it to Pavia. Still, the damage was done. The clip felt believable to many, which says a lot about the perception around him during the pre-draft process.Back in Feb. 2026, at the NFL Scouting Combine, Diego Pavia had pushed back on doubts about his size and traits. “I would just say turn on the tape,” he told reporters at the combine, as reported by ESPN. He pointed to his experience against top SEC defences and said his game speed and decision-making stood out.“I’ve seen a lot of football. I feel like I can process a defense really fast,” he added at the same event. That confidence did not translate into draft interest. Plus, the teams looked at his 5-foot-10 frame and raised concerns about consistency and fit. Interestingly, the result now places him in a rare category. He became the first player in 12 years with his level of college recognition to go undrafted. The story, though, is not over. Diego Pavia now enters the league as an undrafted free agent prospect. The noise around the viral post may fade. What matters next is whether he gets a shot to prove his point on the field.
