The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences has begun the registration process for the June session of the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination 2026. The exam is a mandatory screening test for Indian citizens and Overseas Citizens of India (OCIs) who have completed their primary medical education abroad and wish to practise in India. The FMGE is conducted twice a year, in June and December, and serves as a qualifying examination. Candidates must secure the minimum required marks to be eligible for registration with medical authorities in India. The exam is held in computer-based mode and follows a standardised pattern based on the MBBS curriculum.
NBEMS FMGE exam pattern
The FMGE 2026 will consist of 300 multiple-choice questions divided into two parts, Part A and Part B. Each part will have a duration of 2 hours 30 minutes.

- Marking scheme: +1 for each correct answer
- Negative marking: None
Candidates are required to score at least 150 out of 300 marks to qualify. The qualifying marks remain the same for all categories.
NBEMS FMGE syllabus overview
The syllabus for FMGE is based on the MBBS curriculum prescribed under the Graduate Medical Education Regulations. It broadly covers both pre-clinical and clinical subjects. The pre and para-clinical section carries 100 marks and includes subjects such as Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pathology, Microbiology, Pharmacology and Forensic Medicine. The clinical section carries 200 marks and includes major subjects like Medicine, Surgery, Paediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Community Medicine, along with allied fields such as Psychiatry, Dermatology, Radiology and Anaesthesia.
