'I want all the evidence to...': Indian-origin Akash Singhania on calling police after Youtuber’s pedophilia accusation

Akash Singhania was falsely accused of being child predator

An Indian-origin man wrongly accused of being a pedophile in a viral online sting video has described the moment he decided to call the police, saying, “I want all the evidence to be documented immediately. Immediately.”Akash Singhania was publicly accused in California by YouTuber Vitaly Zdorovetskiy and his team of allegedly trying to meet a 16-year-old girl. The claims turned out to be false. The confrontation was filmed and shared online. It went viral and sparked backlash.Speaking about the moment tensions escalated, Singhania said he asked to see the Snapchat messages being used against him but was refused. That pushed him to involve law enforcement immediately.“I asked to look at the Snapchat and they wouldn’t show me. And then right after that, I’m pretty sure, is when I was like, okay, I need to call the cops immediately because I want all the evidence to be documented. Like, I don’t feel safe right now.”He added that his priority was to clear his name through official documentation. “And most importantly, all the evidence to exonerate me and clear my name fully because I’m fully innocent needs to be documented immediately. Immediately. And the only solution towards documenting that evidence properly, in my opinion, was the cops.”Singhania said that when officers arrived, he cooperated fully, even allowing them to search his phone. He also referred to his understanding of legal rights during police questioning.Akash explained the situation: “So I was like okay I’m gonna call the cops immediately then came and I was like take my phone look through everything go through everything I waived my like any normal person um if you’ve watched any type of lawyer tv show or anything they all say don’t say anything don’t say anything without the presence of counsel um like you should know your rights protect your rights um anything you can say will be used against you anything you say can and will be used against you.“He added: “Yeah. So, um, in the beginning I was, I was trying to get them to through all the evidence in the very beginning. Um, the moment that I met up with them, but they said, you need to wait until we read you rights.”“And so I had to wait before, you know, I could talk to them about anything. And then I like waved my rights and I told them, look through my phone, look through everything. I have nothing to hide.”The incident began when Vitaly and his team confronted Singhania in a California neighbourhood, claiming he had arranged to meet a minor via Snapchat. During the exchange, Singhania repeatedly denied the allegation and insisted he believed he was speaking to an 18-year-old.Video from the scene also shows him asking the group to verify his messages. However, the accusations continued, with Vitaly at one point saying, “You are one of those tech Indians, smart ones huh,” alongside claims that multiple Snapchat accounts were involved. The situation escalated until police arrived. According to Singhania, officers from the Santa Ana Police Department reviewed the matter and confirmed he had done nothing wrong. He later thanked officers for handling of the case.Following the backlash, Vitaly publicly admitted the mistake and issued an apology. “We wrongly identified and accused Akash Singhania. We were completely wrong and made a terrible mistake,” he said.He also urged people to remove the viral clips, adding, “Our team and I messed up and we are deeply sorry to Akash. Whoever has those videos, delete it. The Snapchat messages got messed up, it was the wrong time, wrong place.”Despite the apology, Singhania said the damage had already been done, including harassment and harm to his reputation. “While I appreciate that the mistake has been acknowledged, the impact of the false accusation has been significant. I have experienced harassment, judgment, and damage to my personal and professional relationships based on something that has now been proven false.”
