NEW DELHI: The Centre on Sunday announced to award veteran actor Dharmendra and former chief minister of Jharkhand Shibu Soren with Padma Vibhushan and Padma Bhushan posthumously.While the legendry film star Dharmendra died on November 24, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha founder Soren died on August 4 last year.“Heartiest congratulations to the recipients of the Padma Awards announced today. They are the torchbearers of social change who, with their exceptional accomplishments, game-changing innovations, and tireless commitment, have driven national progress in different fields,” home minister Amit Shah wrote in a social media post on X. “These awards bear the signature of PM Shri Narendra Modi’s vision to turn People’s Padma into a medium to strengthen the spirit of nation building by inspiring millions to follow the path of making social change for the better,” he added.Of the total awardees, 19 are women. The list also includes six awardees from the category of foreigners, NRIs, PIOs and OCIs, underscoring India’s global cultural and professional footprint. Additionally, 16 Padma awards will be conferred posthumously. The Padma Vibhushan honours exceptional and distinguished service, the Padma Bhushan recognises distinguished service of a high order, and the Padma Shri is awarded for distinguished service in any field. The 2026 list includes achievers from a wide range of disciplines, such as art, social work, public affairs, medicine, science and engineering, literature and education, sports, trade and industry, and the civil services.Check full listPadma Vibhushan Awardees (5)
