Annu Kapoor OPENS UP on Seema Kapoor and Om Puri's marriage; Calls it ‘Betrayal’; Says sister’s life was ‘Ruined’

Seema Kapoor and Om Puri married in 1991. However, the relationship soon ran into difficulties and personal differences led to separation within a year. The couple eventually divorced and in 1993, Om Puri married Nandita Puri.Actor Annu Kapoor has now spoken about his sister Seema Kapoor’s short-lived marriage to late actor Om Puri. In a recent interview with Siddharth Kanan, Annu Kapoor alleged that the relationship caused lasting damage to her life. He described the episode as deeply personal and painful. “Om Puri was a phenomenal actor. There was no great actor like him, but that is a different matter. He became someone’s husband, and after becoming someone’s husband, he betrayed a woman, and that is where things went wrong, and I am that woman’s brother,” Annu Kapoor said.

Annu Kapoor says sister suffered

Annu Kapoor added that Om Puri might have passed away a decade earlier if not for his sister Seema Kapoor, who took care of him. He said that when his health became weak and fragile, he returned, and admitted that he was also angry and upset with his sister.Despite his strong statements, Annu Kapoor made it clear that he holds no bitterness today. He spoke respectfully about Nandita Puri and the late actor’s son. “Today, Om Puri saab is not there, his son is there. Even today, I pray to God for his son and for his ex-wife Nandita. I have no enmity towards anyone, but there is regret that my sister Seema Kapoor’s life was ruined, she has no support,” he said.

Annu Kapoor on his silence

Kapoor also spoke about his inability to intervene during that time. He suggested that revealing more details would reopen wounds. “If I start telling those stories, it will become messy, because the brother inside me will come out. Om Puri was also very scared of me, because I speak bluntly. I am not afraid. I was helpless, I could not do anything,” he concluded. Meanwhile, Om Puri passed away in 2017 and his last appearance was in the films ‘Mr. Kabaadi’ and ‘Tubelight’.
