NEW DELHI: Bangladesh have taken some key decisions regarding their pace bowlers following the ODI series against New Zealand, with a clear focus on fitness and upcoming international commitments. Mustafizur Rahman, one of the team’s most experienced pacers, is currently dealing with an injury concern. After being examined by the team’s medical staff, he has been advised to undergo an immediate scan.

Following that, he will begin a rehabilitation programme under the supervision of the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s medical team. Due to this situation, the board has also withdrawn the No Objection Certificate (NOC) that previously allowed him to participate in PSL 2026. This means Mustafizur will not feature in the remainder of the league, as the board wants him fully fit for national duties rather than risking further injury.

Focus on long-term fitness

The BCB has taken a similar approach with young fast bowler Nahid Rana, deciding not to release him for PSL 2026 either. The idea is to give him enough time to prepare properly for the upcoming Test series against Pakistan. These decisions highlight the board’s priority to manage player workload carefully and ensure key bowlers are in the best condition for international cricket.

Fresh faces get a chance

Meanwhile, Bangladesh have also announced their squad for the first two T20I matches against New Zealand, starting April 27 in Chattogram. With senior pacers like Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed and Nahid Rana rested, the selectors have opted to test new talent.All-rounder Abdul Gaffar Saqlain has received his maiden call-up to the T20I side, offering both batting depth and a pace option. Pacer Ripon Mondal has also been included after impressing with his consistency, especially in death overs. Led by Litton Das, the squad features a mix of experienced names and emerging players as Bangladesh look to build bench strength.
