Lilavati Hospital starts GIFT City operations with pre-launch health check-ups

Ahmedabad: Mumbai-headquartered Lilavati Hospital expanded its footprint in Gujarat with the start of its GIFT City premises. As a pre-launch activity, senior members of the hospital administration were at GIFT City on Monday for free health check-ups. Prashant Mehta, director of Lilavati Foundation, said that the GIFT City premises will be fully functional in three phases. “The first phase is likely to be active in the next four months with 120 beds. Eventually it will be a 300-plus-bed facility catering to the rapidly growing fintech hub of Gujarat,” he said. He added that the hospital is part of the Mayo Clinic Care Network to enhance patient care standards and technical expertise.‘Tech, digital-first wave inspiring youth for entrepreneurship’Members of the Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India on Monday observed the institute’s 44th foundation day. Kishor Kharat, former MD and CEO of Indian Bank and IDBI Bank, was the chief guest at the ceremony. He termed entrepreneurs as a strong foundation of India’s economy, and added that even failures propelled the story of entrepreneurship forward. Dr Sunil Shukla, director general of EDII, said that the tech and digital-first wave are inspiring the youth to adopt entrepreneurship as a career. On the occasion, 55 success stories from EDII were shared as a book along. Eight-year-old operated on for spinal tumourAn eight-year-old girl underwent surgery at GCS Hospital for spinal aneurysmal bone cyst, or ABC, which is considered a rare benign but aggressive lesion that can grow rapidly and compress the spinal cord, leading to severe pain and weakness. Dr Keyur Akbari, spine surgeon at the hospital, said that the girl came with pain and could not sit or stand. She had also started losing strength in her legs. “The spinal condition was found at D11-D12 levels where ABC was located. It accounts for only 1%-2% of bone tumours and spinal involvement is even rarer,” he said. The girl was successfully operated on to relieve the pressure and stabilize the spine, he added.
