SBI warns customers: Scammers are sending fake messages claiming your YONO app is ...

SBI, State Bank of India has now issued an advisory warning customers about a new phishing scam involving fraudulent messages that falsely claim that the bank’s mobile banking app — Yono will be blocked unless users update their Aadhaar details. SBI shared a post on social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) in which the bank has requested the customers to not download apps from unknown links or APK files shared via unsolicited emails, SMS or WhatsApp. “Fraud Alert Scammers are sending fake messages claiming your YONO app will be deactivated as Aadhaar number is not updated in your account. Don’t fall for it. Do not download apps from unknown links or APK files shared through unsolicited emails, SMS or WhatsApp.Stay alert. Stay secure. Always download YONO App only from official app stores or visit,” wrote the bank in a post on shared on X.

Here’s the scam message received by users

The message circulated online reads, “Urgent announcementDear SBI customer, This is to inform you that your SBI Yono account will be blocked tonight due to Aadhaar no. is not updated in your account. We regret the inconvenience caused and request you to please install our official SBI Aadhaar update app and kindly update your Aadhaar and proceed your further KYC immediately. Thank you, warm regards, SBI.”The link is malicious and designed to steal sensitive information such as login credentials and personal data.

SBI’s clarification

SBI has asked the users to never download APK files or update their Aadhar details via any unofficial links. All the legal and important updates the YONO app (available on Google Play Store and Apple App Store), or at branch offices.The bank warned that clicking on such links could compromise accounts, leading to financial loss and identity theft. Fraudulent apps can mimic official platforms, tricking users into sharing confidential information.
