Hansika Motwani has opened up about navigating one of the most difficult phases of her life following her separation from businessman Sohael Khaturiya, revealing how her family became her strongest pillar as she battled mental health struggles.

‘They saw me in a very dark space’

Speaking about her lowest phase, Hansika shared that her mother Mona Motwani and brother Prashant Motwani stood firmly by her side when she was struggling emotionally. She told Hauterrfly, “My brother and I are very close. He supported me throughout—he was rock solid. Both my mother and brother told me, ‘If you are not comfortable, don’t go through it.’”She added that her family witnessed a side of her they had never seen before. “They have seen me in a very dark space. I am usually a very happy person, so for them to see me like that was alarming. They told me—whatever you decide, we are with you.”The actress also recalled a powerful piece of advice from her mother that shaped how she dealt with the situation privately.“My mother once told me, ‘Your pain cannot be someone else’s entertainment.’ So no one gets to know when I am drowning. Once I am over it, what people say doesn’t matter.”

Therapy helped her heal

Hansika revealed that the past two years have been focused on rebuilding her mental health, a journey that began after a close friend encouraged her to seek professional help.“For the last two years, I have focused on my mental health. I was in a very dark space and I didn’t understand mental health at all. My friend pulled me out of that phase. She said, ‘Let’s try therapy.’ I told her I can’t do all that research, so she handled everything—found the doctor and got me started.”Calling therapy transformative, she added, “It’s been two years now, and I love it. It has helped me become a better person and taught me how to deal with things I didn’t know how to handle earlier.”

Marriage ‘shook all pillars’

Hansika also reflected on her separation, maintaining that she has no regrets about her decision to walk away. She said she is in a happier space now, adding that it is better to step away from something that isn’t working than to continue suffering. When asked what marriage meant to her—companionship, stability or growth—Hansika admitted that it encompassed all three, and that everything had been shaken.“All three—how can it be just one? Sab hil gaya tha (all the pillars shook).”

Divorce finalised earlier this year

Hansika Motwani and Sohael Khaturiya were granted a mutual consent divorce by Mumbai’s Bandra family court on March 11, 2026. The couple, who got married in December 2022, had been living separately since July 2024 due to irreconcilable differences. No alimony was sought by either party.Maintaining privacy around the details of her marriage, Hansika said, “Even today, no one knows what happened between us—and it’s for the best. What happens between two people is known only to them. No third person can truly comment on it.”

Strength in spirituality

Apart from therapy, Hansika also found strength in spirituality during her healing journey.“I was always spiritual since childhood, but in the last two-and-a-half years, it became stronger. I started praying to Hanuman ji.”Crediting her faith, she added, “I wouldn’t have gotten through the last few years without my spirituality and without Hanuman ji.”
