Vipul Amrutlal Shah wins 2009 cheque bounce case linked to Salman Khan, Ajay Devgn starrer 'London Dreams'

Filmmaker Vipul Amrutlal Shah has secured a legal victory in a long-standing cheque dishonour case linked to his 2009 film London Dreams. The Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Andheri delivered its verdict on April 15, bringing closure to a dispute that had stretched over 16 years. As per a statement from his legal team, the issue dates back to 2009 when Shah, via his company Sunshine Pictures Private Limited, provided financial support to the film’s producers to help complete the project. However, the repayment cheque issued to him was later dishonoured, prompting him to initiate legal proceedings under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881.Detailing the outcome, his advocate said, “Vipul Amrutlal Shah has finally won a 16-year-old, long-drawn cheque-bouncing case against the producers of London Dreams. In 2009, Mr Shah, through his company Sunshine Pictures Private Limited, had extended a loan to the producers to complete their film. The repayment cheque issued by the producers was dishonoured by their bank upon presentation.”The statement further added, “After a gruelling legal process spanning 16 years, the Learned Metropolitan Magistrate Court, Andheri, vide its order dated April 15, 2026, held the producers, Mr PJ Singh and Mrs Gita Bhalla Singh, guilty and convicted them for offences punishable under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881. The producers have been directed to pay within 90 days, failing which they will face imprisonment of 9 months. Justice delayed, but not denied.”The case revolved around allegations that producers PJ Singh and Gita Bhalla Singh failed to honour their repayment obligations despite issuing a cheque. Following years of hearings, the court found them guilty of cheque dishonour and directed them to clear the outstanding amount within 90 days, with a provision of nine months’ imprisonment if they fail to comply.London Dreams, which released in 2009, starred Salman Khan, Ajay Devgn, and Asin in lead roles. The film had reportedly run into financial hurdles during production. At the time, according to reports, Shah and the lead actors had agreed to reduce their fees to ensure the project was completed. Filmmaker Rajkumar Santoshi was initially set to direct the film before Shah eventually stepped in.
