'Scolded for coming back drunk': 2nd-year BTech student jumps to death from hostel building in Greater Noida
A second-year BTech student died after allegedly jumping from the 4th floor of a hostel in Knowledge Park-3 on Friday night.

NOIDA: A second-year BTech student died after allegedly jumping from the 4th floor of a hostel in Knowledge Park-3 on Friday night. The deceased was identified as Udit Soni, a resident of Bhognipur in Jhansi district.According to police, Udit returned to the hostel late at night along with his friends Chetan and Kuldeep after consuming alcohol. Hostel management noticed the students’ condition and reprimanded Udit for violating hostel rules. During the confrontation, the management reportedly recorded a video of the incident and sent it to Udit’s father, Vijay Soni.After receiving the video, Udit’s father allegedly scolded him over the phone and warned that his name would be struck off from the college rolls and that he would be called back home. Police said that Udit appeared to be deeply distressed following the conversation.Shortly thereafter, Udit allegedly jumped from the 4th floor of the hostel building. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.On receiving information, police reached the spot and initiated legal formalities. The body was sent for post-mortem examination after completing the legal proceedings in the presence of family members, who arrived at the hostel soon after the incident.Police officials said that statements of several people were being recorded to ascertain the exact sequence of events. Senior officers also visited the hostel and interacted with students to maintain calm and understand the circumstances leading to the incident.An FIR was being registered based on a complaint received from the family. Police said that the situation at the spot remained peaceful, and further investigation was underway.Following the incident, the other students vandalised buses and hostel property. Some of them have alleged that Udit was beaten by the warden and owner of the hostel and thrown of the roof.Two people have been taken into custody for interrogation and further investigation is underway.
