Mumbai-based entrepreneur Rohit Shah has developed ImpactPure, a portable, electricity-free water purifier designed to fit in an office bag. This innovation addresses the lack of safe drinking water in public spaces by purifying water from taps, killing 99% of bacteria and viruses, and reducing reliance on plastic bottled water.

Water is one of life’s basic necessities. It not only hydrates but also aids better digestion and the smooth functioning of other bodily mechanisms. Let us accept that while many technological advancements have been made, access to safe drinking water in public spaces remains a problem. In places where purifiers have been installed, their long-pending maintenance often restricts us from consuming the water. Ultimately buying bottled water is the only safer option one can consider, which surely strains the monthly expense. But, not anymore, because someone has filled the gap by building a water purifier that can fit in your office bag and kills 99% of bacteria. Scroll down to read the details.

What is the innovation and who do it

Meet ImpactPure, a portable water purifier designed for on-the-move living that works without electricity, purifies water within minutes and makes it safe for drinking. It is an innovation developed by Mumbai-based entrepreneur Rohit Shah, who has spent nearly two decades working in water purification. It has been designed for situations such as travel, treks, or unfamiliar taps. It arose from the basic crisis: how can one access safe drinking water when away from home and unable to afford daily packaged water purchases?

What makes it special

The best thing about this purifier is that it fits in your office or travel bag and works without electricity. It is compact and all you need to do is, attach it directly to a tap. The owner claims that this 3,000-liter capacity water purifier kills 99% of bacteria and viruses, removes chlorine, heavy metals and other impurities, and provides clean, pH-balanced water while retaining essential minerals. It is made with stainless steel and comes with a replaceable cartridge and combines selective tracing, nano silver, KDF, and MHD technology to filter impurities and condition even hard water effectively. Priced at Rs 4,000, it is a one-time investment that aims to reduce plastic wastage and prioritize access to safe drinking water.

How does it help environment

With this portable water purifier, Rohit aims to reduce the consumption of packaged water bottles which clog rivers, oceans, and landfills, and release toxic fumes when burnt. It has been reported that one-litre plastic water bottle can contain up to 240,000 microplastic particles, and traces of it have been found in human blood, lungs, gut and even reproductive tissues. Rohit wishes that people should say no to plastic water bottles and still consume safe drinking water devoid of any plastic and chemicals.

What does it teach us

Rohit’s innovation is practical and useful. It not only aims to heal the environment but also addresses the practical problem of scarcity of safe drinking water in public spaces. What do you think of this innovation? Share your thoughts in the comment section.
