Divya Dutta opens up about choosing to stay single, ‘I am still open to love, but not marriage’

Divya Dutta, who has spent over three decades in the entertainment industry, has portrayed a wide range of characters on screen — from lovers to wives. Off screen, however, the actor has consciously chosen a different path. While she has decided to stay away from marriage, she says she remains open to companionship with a loving, understanding partner.

“Ye bahot galatiya karke seekha hai,” says Divya

In an interview with Pinkvilla, Divya opened up about why marriage is no longer on her priority list. The 48-year-old said, “Ye bahot galatiya karke seekha hai (I have learned it the hard way).”She added that she did seek love in the past, but came to realise how demanding a long-term partnership can be.“I sought it quite a few times, but when you talk about marriage or partnership, it is something that needs a lot of mutual nurturing to be with the right person,” she shared.

“Being an actor is not an easy combination”

Divya explained that her profession comes with its own set of challenges, which require a very secure and understanding partner. The Chhaava actor said, “Aap actor hai, unpredictable job hai, upar se high-profile hai. Dimaag bhi rakhte hai toh easy combo toh hain nhi. (You’re an actor, it’s an unpredictable, high-profile job. You have a brain too, and it’s not an easy combination.)”She stressed that she needs someone who is secure in their own space and comfortable with the nature of her life and career.

Past relationships didn’t offer the balance she needed

Divya admitted that she met some genuinely good people while dating. However, with time, she realised they weren’t the right fit for her.“I realized it the wrong way,” she said, adding that she eventually found peace in being by herself. She noted that her partner would need to walk with her through life, hold her hand during difficult times, and believe in mutual celebration and nurturing — something she felt was missing earlier.

“I am still open to love, but not marriage”

Reflecting on the pandemic, Divya shared that the period gave her clarity about what she truly wanted. She realised she didn’t need to constantly seek love outside to feel complete.“I am still open to love, but I don’t think I would want to get married,” she concluded, choosing peace and emotional balance over societal expectations.
