Alexis Ohanian posted his old ID card from Howard High School on social media. In the photo, he had curtain bangs, a popular hairstyle in the 1990s. Along with the picture, he shared a funny caption. He wrote, “Infinite aura. This kid would return for a keynote at Howard High two decades later and get banned for life. For cursing a few times in the talk.”

Alexis Ohanian’s journey from learning coding in middle school to building Reddit and investing in sports and tech
From a young age, Alexis Ohanian was curious about technology. In middle school, he even took classes at a community college to learn computer programming. He learned how to build websites, write code, and even take computers apart and fix them.In high school, he took the only computer science class available. Later, he joined the University of Virginia. He first studied computer science but then changed to business and history, with a minor in German.After college, Alexis and his friend Steve Huffman tried to build a startup idea called MyMobileMenu. When they pitched it to Y Combinator, it was not accepted. Instead, they were told to come up with something new. That idea later became Reddit, which now has millions of users around the world.Over time, Alexis started and invested in many projects. He created Breadpig, worked on Hipmunk, and launched his own investment firm. He also became part of sports. He is an owner of Angel City FC and supports women’s sports through events like Athlos. He also bought a stake in Chelsea Women FC and helped bring back Digg. Alexis married Serena Williams in 2017. The couple has two daughters, Olympia and Adira.
