Bank holiday on April 14? Check where banks are closed or open on Ambedkar Jayanti 2026, Vishu, Baisakhi; state-wise list

Bank branches will remain closed across most cities on April 14, 2026 on account of Ambedkar Jayanti, with the holiday observed under the RBI’s Negotiable Instruments Act calendar, while select locations will continue operations.Ambedkar Jayanti, which falls on a Tuesday this year, is a gazetted holiday marking the birth anniversary of Dr B.R. Ambedkar, the chief architect of the Indian Constitution. The day also coincides with regional festivals such as Maha Vishuva Sankranti, Biju, Buisu Festival, Tamil New Year’s Day, Bohag Bihu, Cheiraoba and Baisakhi, and are widely observed with public events and gatherings.As part of the holiday, government offices, public sector units, courts, and government-run schools and colleges will remain closed in several states. Stock markets, including NSE and BSE, will also be shut.

Where banks will remain closed and open

Bank branches will be shut in cities including Agartala, Ahmedabad, Belapur, Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Dehradun, Gangtok, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Imphal, Jaipur, Jammu, Kanpur, Kochi, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Panaji, Patna, Ranchi, Srinagar, Thiruvananthapuram and Vijayawada.However, bank branches will remain open in Aizawl, Bhopal, Itanagar, Kohima, New Delhi, Raipur, Shillong and Shimla, according to the RBI holiday calendar.While physical bank branches will remain closed in most regions, digital banking services will continue without interruption. Customers can carry out transactions through internet banking, mobile banking, SMS banking and WhatsApp banking platforms.ATM services, cash withdrawals, UPI payments and online fund transfers will also remain available, ensuring continuity of essential banking operations.Normal banking operations will resume on the next working day following the holiday.
