D for dilemma

Alter-Me scores over Me and D2

Startled by Me’s reaction on skimming the show timings of D2, Alter-Me said, “I’m not accompanying you. It is longer than a T20 match.”

A determined Me in rising crescendo said, there is a show in almost every theatre, single or multiplex, every 30 minutes past the hour, throughout the day.

“An emphatic no,” was Alter-Me’s absolute response.
Me wanted to opt for the 2.15 am show, so that we could return to wake the night-duty watchman, and welcome the doodhwala.

“Not only will you sleep in the theatre, but you will also not be able to sleep on return,” said Alter-Me.

Ok, what about the 6.30 am, 7.30 am, or 8.30 am shows?

“Which means we have to wake up at unearthly hours to reach on time. We will struggle to even rise for the national anthem,” said Alter-Me, who did not want to spend atrocious amounts for popcorn and samosa, “for breakfast”.

Having watched D1, Me was definitely wanting to see what happens in the sequel. “I will sit with you max for 90 minutes. After that you can substitute me with any impact player,” said Alter-Me, full of sarcasm.

Still amazed at D2 hijacking shows throughout day and night, into the third week, Me suggested other show timings.

“I can’t skip lunch at home by going for shows after 10, and can’t go for shows after lunch, as it would be impolite not to nap in AC, given the heatwave outside,” said Alter-Me.

He also ruled out disturbing dinner.

Me was getting pretty annoyed at Alter-Me’s stubbornness, but did not feel brave enough to see the reported gory scenes all alone. “Darpok, just shut your eyes for a few seconds, and they will be gone,” counselled Alter-Me.

“BTW, shows are at less unearthly hours now,” countered Me. “Just BTW too, what is the cost of the tickets?” asked Alter-Me.

The shriek that came when Me mentioned the astronomical figure, with a softly polite voice, was not from Alter-Me but from the Mrs, not Me’s but Alter-Me’s.

“That’s crazy. No need to pay so much, to watch something at unearthly hours, especially when we know both of you will be fast asleep, even before the interval. There are no technical timeouts here, okay,” she said firmly.

“We will wait for it to land on OTT,” said Alter-Me, leaving Me nodding in capitulation.
