UP woman dies after jilted lover throws acid on her

LUCKNOW: A 23-year-old woman died after a jilted lover allegedly threw acid on her and her mother while they were asleep inside their home in Morwan village under Ramkola police station in Kushinagar on Thursday night. The victim’s 58-year-old mother is battling for life. The deceased was Kajal Yadav, daughter of Prabhunath Yadav. Her mother, Leelawati Devi, sustained severe burn injuries and is undergoing treatment in critical condition at Gorakhpur Medical College.Police said the attack took place around 3:30am when the accused allegedly climbed onto the roof of the house and entered through a sliding window. The main gate of the house was locked from inside, indicating a planned intrusion. He then poured acid on the sleeping mother and daughter and fled the scene.Hearing their screams, family members rushed to the room and found both women severely burnt. They were taken to Ramkola community health centre and later referred to Kushinagar Medical College. Due to the critical nature of their injuries, both were shifted to Gorakhpur, where Kajal succumbed during treatment, while her mother continues to remain in a critical state.Senior officers, including Kushinagar SP Keshav Kumar and other officials, reached the spot during the night and launched an investigation.Based on a complaint filed by the victim’s brother, Abhishek Yadav, an FIR was registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Investigation led to the identification of the accused.Police arrested two accused — Chhotelal Kharwar and Anuj Kushwaha, both residents of Kushinagar.Kumar said that Chhotelal confessed to being in a relationship with Kajal.“The victim had recently distanced herself as her marriage had been fixed elsewhere,” added Kumar.Enraged, he conspired with his associate and planned the attack. Investigators revealed that the duo arranged the acid from Bihar’s Gopalganj area, Kumar added.
