GUWAHATI: The voter turnout in the 2026 Assam assembly polls further climbed on Sunday, reaching close to 86%, according to the EC’s last update. This marks the highest turnout in the state’s history, surpassing previous highs of 84.7% in 2016, and 82% in 2021. Speaking to reporters in Rajasthan, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “All Sanatani people have voted en masse for NDA. We will secure 90-100 seats in the state this time.” The Muslim belt, comprising the 10 Muslim-majority districts, recorded an average turnout rise of 4.7 points over 2021, the highest in the state.
