Somy Ali recently opened up about her past relationship with Salman Khan, admitting to her mistakes while also questioning why women alone are blamed in such situations. She also revisited the moment when Sangeeta Bijlani allegedly gave Salman an ultimatum after finding them together.
‘Sangeeta saw us together and gave Salman an ultimatum’
Recalling the turning point, Somy told Vickey Lalwani, “Main Vindhyachal mein rehti thi… Salman aur main subah breakfast kar rahe the. Tab Sangeeta wahan aa gayi. Unhone humein saath dekha aur Salman ko seedha ultimatum de diya — ‘ya toh isko chuno ya mujhe chuno.’”She added, “Woh unka haq tha, unhone bilkul sahi kiya. Uske baad Salman ne jo decision lena tha, woh liya. Unka aur Sangeeta ka breakup ho gaya… phir Sangeeta ki shaadi ho gayi.”
‘I didn’t feel guilty then… I didn’t even understand what I was doing’
When asked if she felt guilty at the time, Somy admitted she didn’t — but acknowledges it now.“Nahi, mujhe samajh hi nahi aa raha tha main kar kya rahi hoon. Aap sochiye, kitni ladkiyan hongi jo Salman Khan pe marti hongi… aur kitni ladkiyan America se India aati hain unke saath rehne ke liye? Maine toh aisa kisi ke saath hote hue nahi suna.”However, she added with hindsight, “Aaj main maanta hoon ki maine galat kiya. Main literally ek relationship tod rahi thi, ek shaadi tod rahi thi.”
‘Why blame only women? Men are equally responsible’
Somy didn’t hold back while addressing the larger narrative around blame.“Tali do haath se bajti hai. Hum hamesha aurat ko hi kyun dosh dete hain? Aadmi ka bhi utna hi haath hota hai. Main yeh nahi keh rahi ki aurat hamesha sahi hoti hai, lekin sirf usko blame karna galat hai.”She pointed out the age gap at the time, saying, “Main 16 saal ki thi, mujhe akal nahi thi. Lekin Salman 27 ke the — unko toh akal thi.”
‘I thought God was on my side… I was too naive’
Reflecting on her mindset back then, Somy said she believed her actions were justified.“Main yeh soch rahi thi ki God mere saath hai aur mera sapna sach ho raha hai. Main bahut naive thi. Main ninth grade dropout thi, mujhe itni samajh nahi thi ki main kya kar rahi hoon.”
‘If he hadn’t chosen me, I would have gone back’
She further revealed that things could have ended very differently.“Agar Salman ne Sangeeta ko nahi chhoda hota, toh main wapas chali jaati. Main 1990 mein India aayi thi, 1991 mein 16 ki hui… aur agar us waqt baat nahi banti, toh main turant wapas chali jaati.”
‘Salman would question my relationships, but still doesn’t know the truth’
Somy also hinted at Salman questioning her personal life later.“Woh mujhse poochte the ki tumne falane insaan ke saath relationship kyun rakha. Lekin aaj tak unhe nahi pata ki woh kaun tha. He still doesn’t know.”
