Triumph’s 400 bikes go 350cc in India: Model-wise pricing, what's changed

Triumph Motorcycles has finally launched the new 350cc versions of its popular 400 motorcycles in India. The update is closely aligned with the revised GST structure that favours bikes under 350cc with a lower 18 percent tax rate. The company has downsized its entire entry-level portfolio, including the Speed 400, Speed T4, Thruxton 400, Scrambler 400 and Scrambler 400 XC. Interestingly, despite the reduction in engine displacement, Triumph has retained the ‘400’ badge across the lineup instead of renaming the motorcycles. The revised models are now powered by a 349cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine. This has been achieved by reducing the stroke from 64 mm to 56.1 mm, while the bore remains unchanged at 89 mm.

The Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 now deliver 37.0 PS at 8,500 rpm and 32.0 Nm at 7,000 rpm, down from 40.0 PS and 37.5 Nm. Meanwhile, the Thruxton 400 and Scrambler 400 XC produce 40.0 PS at 8,750 rpm and 32.0 Nm, compared to the earlier 42.0 PS and 37.5 Nm.Performance figures have also seen slight changes. For instance, the Speed 400 now accelerates from 0-100 kmph in 8.1 seconds, compared to 7.4 seconds earlier, while its top speed drops marginally to 147 kmph from 148.7 kmph.
