The principle of motherhood is as vast and powerful as the universe. Each one of us has a far-reaching effect on others, whether we are aware of it or not. The responsibility of a mother, when it comes to influencing and inspiring her children, cannot be underestimated.Today, as values continue to decline, the growing use of intoxicants among youth and children is something we must fear even more than war. Unknown to their parents and siblings, children are destroying themselves. Amma’s ears are filled with the constant cries of lamenting parents. It is deeply painful to hear. Mothers also confide in Amma that their children have become addicted to their mobiles and regularly demand better models. Sometimes families arrive together, and thus Amma has seen for herself the validity of the parents’ concerns. The children’s minds have become weak. They may have talents, but their mental strength has been lost. Many youth have committed suicide. Many more have suicidal tendencies. Amma has seen the scars where some had slashed their wrists. It is like buds that could have blossomed into beautiful flowers getting infested by bugs. Those meant to become responsible contributors to their families and the nation are instead being consumed by addiction. The only remedy for this is to nurture strong values and character from a young age.To achieve this, we must begin by honouring our women. It is one of the most pressing needs of our times. The power of motherhood, which grants birth and life to all creatures, is unmatched. Every other force pales in comparison to its greatness.Mothers naturally possess a balanced and impartial perspective. This is why a woman can give birth to both male and female children, nourish them with breastmilk, and shower them with love equally, without any discrimination. The mother is the first teacher. Whatever the mother does, the child will imbibe. A mother’s breast milk does more than nourish just the baby’s body. It also develops the baby’s mind, intellect and heart. Similarly, the life values a mother transmits to her child give strength and courage for the future. Women should discern and have faith in the maternal power within them. The womb, conception, giving birth, and her inborn nature are the compassionate blessings of God. Even if a woman decides not to lead a married life or to have children, maternal qualities—love, compassion, patience, forgiveness, and forbearance—are inherent. This is why when mothers awaken and strive diligently, they can lead the world towards the path of truth and dharma. Through the pure essence of motherhood, which is afraid not even of death, and through an unshakeable self-confidence that prepares her for giving birth to new life, woman can constantly show humanity that she is strength and the very epitome of courage.
