Who is Sarinasadat Hosseiny? Grandniece of Iranian general Qasem Soleimani arrested by ICE in Los Angeles raid

Sarinasadat Hosseiny, the 25-year-old relative of slain Iranian general Qasem Soleimani, has come under scrutiny following her arrest by US immigration authorities in Los Angeles.Hosseiny is the grandniece of Soleimani, the former commander of Iran’s Quds Force who was killed in a US drone strike in 2020.Hosseiny entered the United States in 2015 on a student visa and later obtained lawful permanent residency (a green card) in 2023. Her mother, Hamideh Soleimani Afshar, is Soleimani’s niece and had earlier been granted asylum and then a green card. Both women were arrested by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) after the US State Department revoked their residency status. Officials said the action was taken due to alleged links to the Iranian regime.US authorities specifically pointed to Afshar’s activities, alleging she had promoted Iranian government propaganda, supported the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, and expressed anti-American views on social media while living in the United States. Hosseiny was detained alongside her mother following the revocation of their legal status. Both women are now in ICE custody and are facing removal from the United States.Hosseiny had been living in the US for several years and had shared aspects of her lavish lifestyle on social media, including travel across the country, expensive cars, and posh clothes. The arrests are part of a broader move by US authorities targeting individuals believed to have connections to or support for foreign regimes considered hostile to the US, particularly amid heightened tensions involving war with Iran. There is no indication from US authorities that Hosseiny herself has been charged with a criminal offence. The action against her is tied to immigration status and national security concerns, following the revocation of her green card.
