‘Good Will Hunting’ is one of Matt Damon’s most revered works in Hollywood. He and Ben Affleck struggled a lot to get the project off the ground, and while at first things seemed grim, it slowly caught traction after release and even landed it 2 Oscar wins for Best Supporting Actor and Best Original Screenplay. Sylvester Stallone was a big inspiration for ‘Good Will Hunting’
In an old interview, while talking to Sunday Today, Matt Damon opened up about what went down behind the scenes for ‘Good Will Hunting.’ He revealed that at first, the main team did not see him and Affleck fitting into the main roles. The two of them, however, still managed to convince everyone.
He stated at the time that, “Stallone, that was like our code word. We’d go into these meetings and these people would say, ‘You guys can’t play the parts. I mean, come on.’ They wanted Brad [Pitt] and Leo [Leonardo DiCaprio]. We were like, ‘Sylvester Stallone.’ Yes, we can play the parts, we are playing the parts.”This is not the only time that Damon had talked about the ‘Rocky’ legend being the inspiration behind his role in ‘Good Will Hunting.’ Back in 2016, when he attended the National Board of Review dinner in New York, he admitted that seeing Stallone in ‘Rocky’ was a big inspiration to him.

He further concluded by saying that “[Stallone’s] story changed my life. He had an incredible amount of courage, and he changed the course of our lives.”
