RPSC SI exam 2026: Supreme Court modifies order, allows 1 candidate instead of 713 to appear

RPSC SI exam admit card 2026: The Supreme Court of India on Friday modified its April 2 order and allowed only one candidate to appear in the Rajasthan Sub-Inspector (SI) recruitment examination 2025. Earlier, the court had permitted 713 candidates to appear in the exam, according to PTI.The examination is being conducted by the Rajasthan Public Service Commission on April 5 and 6, 2025. The recruitment drive aims to fill 1,015 Sub-Inspector and Platoon Commander posts, and over 7.70 lakh candidates are expected to appear in the examination.

Supreme Court modifies earlier order

According to PTI, a bench comprising Justices Dipankar Datta and Satish Chandra Sharma modified its earlier decision after hearing submissions from the RPSC.Earlier, the court had directed RPSC to issue provisional admit cards to 713 candidates, including petitioner Suraj Mal Meena. However, after reviewing the matter, the bench restricted the relief to Meena alone. The court said that all other candidates who were not part of the petition can approach the Rajasthan High Court for further relief, if required.

Background of the case

The issue relates to the Sub-Inspector and Platoon Commander recruitment exam, which was earlier cancelled due to allegations of irregularities and malpractice. The RPSC later decided to conduct a fresh examination. However, no age relaxation was granted to candidates who became ineligible due to age limits. This led to legal challenges before the Rajasthan High Court.Initially, a single-judge bench allowed affected candidates to appear provisionally in the exam. This order was later stayed by a division bench, prompting one candidate to approach the Supreme Court.

Court’s direction

The Supreme Court has now clarified that:

  • Only one candidate will be allowed to appear in the exam
  • Other candidates can approach the Rajasthan High Court
  • Further decisions will depend on the High Court’s pending verdict

The RPSC SI recruitment examination will be held on April 5 and April 6, 2025 as scheduled. Candidates are advised to follow official updates for further information.(With PTI inputs)
