PUNE: Abhay Satyendra Nevagi, a legal professional based, has been awarded the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) by Vishwakarma University, Pune, for his thesis titled “Ease of Doing Business and New Labour Codes”, submitted to the Department of Professional Studies, Faculty of Interdisciplinary Studies recently. The research was conducted under the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Siddharth Jabade, the former Vice Chancellor of Vishwakarma University, Pune.The research offers a comprehensive examination of Indian labour legislation from 1800 to the present and critically evaluates the four Labour Codes introduced by the Government of India, which consolidate over 29 central statutes into a unified regulatory framework. The research focuses on challenges for employers and workers along with benefits for both. Drawing on extensive experience in labour and industrial relations law, including engagement across a wide range of sectors such as manufacturing, banking, hospitality, healthcare, and information technology, and informed by interactions with retired judges, senior industry executives, and trade union leaders across the country, the thesis presents a practitioner’s perspective that is rare in academic literature on the subject.The work was reviewed by three external examiners; Prof. José Aparecido Da Silva (Brazil), Dr. Mamoon Rashid (Bahrain) and Dr. Rajan Gengaje (Pune) all of whom recommended the award of the Ph.D., with Prof. Da Silva suggesting approval with honor and distinctions.
