Hanuman Jayanti is also celebrated as Hanuman Janmotsav. People honor Lord Hanuman on this special day as the whole country celebrate the birth anniversary of Lord Hanuman ji. This holds a great religious and spiritual significance among Hindus. Lord Hanuman was on Purnima tithi of shukla paksha in the month of Chaitra and he born to mother Anjani and father Kesari. He is also known as Pawan Putra (the son of Vayu). He represents wisdom, loyalty, devotion, courage, fearlessness, strength and power. Hanuman ji is one of the immortals or Chiranjeevi’s, who is present on earth. He was born in Treta yuga when Lord Shri Ram was born. On this special occasion, devotees of Lord Shri Ram and Lord Hanuman celebrate this day with immense devotion and purity. They offer their sincere prayers to Lord Hanuman, visit temple, chant mantras and many devotees recite Ramayana or Sundarkand (this is the part of the holy book Ramacharitmanas).

He displayed extraordinary powers and strength when he was little child and once he swallowed the Sun considering it as a fruit. He is called by many names such as Maruti, Bajrangbali, Sankat Mochan, Kesari Nandan and Sundar, the name given by his mother when he was a child. He was well-known for being a devoted follower of Shri Ram, who was crucial to his life’s struggle against Ravana.

This day is celebrated with great grandeur and dedication by devotees. In order to seek the Lord’s blessings, they do puja by burning a diya with jasmine oil in front of the Lord Hanuman idol and reciting different mantras, stotrams, sundar kand, and hanuman chalisa. Sindoor, jasmine oil, meetha paan, coconut, chola, and laddoos are offered as bhog prasad when they visit the shrine. One of the best ways to ask for his supernatural protection and blessings is to observe fast. Sundarkand Path is organized at home by many enthusiasts. To commemorate Hanuman ji’s birthday, temples are decorated with lights and flowers.
