UAE: Indian schools announce dates for new academic year, classes to be conducted online

Indian schools across UAE have announced the beginning dates for the academic year of 2026-2027. While a few of them had already begun remote classes on Monday, the majority of them will be starting the curriculum on April 6, 2026. Schools have opted for a blended model of synchronous and asynchronous learning, allowing students to balance live sessions with self-paced activities. The schedule remains light with morning assemblies, introduction to new teachers, orientation sessions and student leadership induction ceremonies.

Structured lesson plans

Live lessons being conducted for all classes are structurally planned to be interactive, making use of digital tools and multimedia resources. “Teaching, learning, assessments, routines, and student support systems continue as planned, ensuring continuity and familiarity for students, staff, and parents,” said Fatima Martin, Principal and CEO of GEMS New Millennium School to Khaleej Times. Schools have invested in strengthening the technological support to children, ensuring seamless access to devices and platforms. Teachers have been trained to manage any disruptions during live lessons, and offer support to students in an aim to continue quality learning.

Parent, teacher and student support

Chitra Sharma, Principal of JSS Private School, Dubai revealed that the few initial weeks will focus on diagnostic and formative assessments, enabling teachers to gauge student readiness and provide targeted support, ensuring that no learning gaps emerge. Schools are ensuring parents and students receive clear and timely communication, with hyperlinked timetables that allow direct access to schedules and virtual classrooms. Noufal Ahamed, Managing Director of Woodlem Educational, also shared that the institution will be conducting Zoom training sessions for parents in order to help them assist their children at home. Previously, CBSE had cancelled all Class X and XII final examinations due to the ongoing regional conflict, after initially postponing them. The uncertainty had created a cloud of consistent anxiety for the parents and students alike, worried over their results and future. While earlier there had been hopes of resuming physical classes in schools, the Ministry of Education in UAE announced that classes would continue to be conducted online for all nurseries, kindergartens, public and private schools, and universities till April 17, 2026.
