"These are deepfakes created without my consent": Sudha Murty warns public about AI-generated videos featuring her

Fake videos are becoming one of the biggest worries on social media today, especially when they use familiar and trusted names. As AI-generated content spreads faster than ever, even respected public figures are finding their identities misused online. This growing concern has now led author and philanthropist Sudha Murty to issue a direct and timely warning to the public.

Sudha Murty issues a public alert

Sudha Murty recently shared a video message after discovering that fake videos were being circulated using her image and voice. These videos falsely show her promoting financial schemes and asking people to invest money. She addressed the issue openly by posting the video on X.

In her post, she wrote, “I want to alert you to fake videos circulating online that falsely use my image and voice to promote financial schemes and investments. These are deepfakes created without my knowledge or consent.”She also requested people to stay cautious and avoid acting on such content. “Please do not make any financial decisions based on these fraudulent videos. Stay vigilant and stay safe. Jai Hind!”

What the fake videos are saying

In the video, Murty explained that several such clips are being shared widely, mainly on Facebook. In these videos, she appears to ask viewers to invest “200 dollars or 20,000 rupees.” The clips promise high returns and sometimes claim that the amount can grow “ten times more.”She clearly stated that these videos are fake. “These videos are not real,” she said, adding that they were created using AI without her permission.

Real impact on people

Murty also spoke about the damage already caused by these videos. She said that people she knows have trusted these clips and ended up losing money. “Many people I know have invested and lost money,” she said, underlining how convincing such fake videos can be.

What she actually speaks about

Putting things in perspective, Murty reminded people that she has never spoken about financial investments online. “I never talk about financial investments or do anything with money. I talk about work, I talk about India’s culture, I talk about women and education,” she said. Her message has been widely noticed, with many appreciating her for speaking up and reminding people to stay alert as fake AI videos continue to circulate online.Thumb image: X/Sudha Murty
