Anurag Kashyap spills beans on his cop role in 'Dacoit'; says Adivi Sesh starrer helped him focus on health and writing
Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap is making his Telugu acting debut in the upcoming action drama ‘Dacoit,’ starring Adivi Sesh. Kashyap found the role of a realistic cop, not a villain, refreshing and aligned with his creative roots. The demanding shoot also prompted him to prioritize his health and return to scriptwriting.

Filmmaker and actor Anurag Kashyap is set to appear in the upcoming action drama ‘Dacoit,’ which stars Adivi Sesh and Mrunal Thakur in lead roles. The film is scheduled for a theatrical release on April 10. Known mainly for directing bold and unique films, Anurag Kashyap has also been acting in different industries in recent years. With ‘Dacoit,’ he will be making his acting debut in Telugu cinema. The filmmaker says this project has come at a very important time in his life. According to him, working on the film helped him reconnect with himself and return to the creative mindset he had when he first started his career in the late 1990s.

Anurag Kashyap explains why the role in ‘Dacoit’ interested him

Talking about the film with The Hollywood Reporter India, Anurag Kashyap said the character immediately caught his attention because it was different from the roles he usually receives. “They told me I would be playing a cop, but not a villain. It is not a hero versus villain story. It is actually a love story,” he explained. He also liked the fact that the character was realistic and imperfect. “I was not asked to play a psycho or eccentric role. I was playing someone my age, someone with flaws and limitations. He gets tired when he runs and has his own struggles,” Anurag Kashyap said. The story of ‘Dacoit’ mainly focuses on two former lovers who still carry both love and anger within them. Anurag Kashyap portrays the character that serves as a trigger in the story.

‘Dacoit’ helped Anurag Kashyap reflect on life and health

Anurag Kashyap expressed that the film also benefited him in a way. The long schedule and demanding scenes made him think about his health and lifestyle. “By the end of the film, it put me in a good space. I realised I need to focus more on my health and physicality,” he said. He added that the experience also gave him time to step away from the busy life in Mumbai and focus on writing again. “I feel like I have gone back to where I started: writing scripts and waiting to make films the right way instead of rushing,” Anurag Kashyap explained.

Here’s how Anurag Kashyap landed the role in ‘Dacoit’

Interestingly, Anurag Kashyap earlier revealed that he agreed to do ‘Dacoit’ after hearing the story at a wedding. “It was very strange how I got into it. I was at Shobhita’s wedding when the producer met me and started narrating the film right there,” he said. At first, Anurag Kashyap was hesitant because he was busy directing two films. However, as the narration continued, he began to understand the depth of the character. “During that conversation itself, I understood half the character. That is when I felt I should do it,” he shared. The film eventually convinced him to step in front of the camera once again.
