NEW DELHI: A video allegedly showing a man urinating on the platform of a Delhi Metro station has gone viral on social media, drawing sharp criticism over lack of civic sense and hygiene in public spaces. The clip, widely circulated on X, shows the man relieving himself near the glass railings on the platform. He appears to stop midway after realising he is being filmed and then walks away. The incident has sparked outrage among commuters. Reacting to the viral video, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation appealed to passengers to help maintain cleanliness across its network. “DMRC requests all its passengers to help in keeping the premises clean and hygienic. If passengers notice any such activity by a fellow passenger, they should immediately bring the same to the notice of DMRC authorities,” it said in a statement. Social media users condemned the act as disturbing and disrespectful, with many calling for strict penalties to deter similar incidents. Several users tagged the DMRC, demanding identification of the individual and firm action to uphold hygiene norms in the public transport system. Some users recounted similar experiences on metro platforms, saying such incidents have made them wary of using the service, especially during late hours.Another user wrote,” People think of Delhi metro as home. They make out, pee do whatever they like. It’s high time govt. takes some action. Delhi is our capital city we don’t wanna ruin it.” Others used the episode to highlight a broader concern about civic responsibility, pointing to issues such as littering, spitting and misuse of public spaces within metro premises. Many argued that stronger enforcement, public awareness and deterrent action were necessary to prevent such behaviour and protect the dignity of shared infrastructure.
