Rishab Shetty, the Kantara sensation, recently recounted a charming experience involving Tamil film icon Vijay Sethupathi. In an unexpected yet thrilling twist, Sethupathi reached out with a call to praise Shetty for his captivating 2022 film. Their chat seamlessly transitioned from English to friendly Tamil banter, with Shetty openly sharing his admiration for Sethupathi’s illustrious path in cinema.

Rishab Shetty rose to fame with ‘Kantara’, which made a modest budget turn out to be a super global hit. Recently, the actor-director, during an event, shared a very sweet memory about Tamil star Vijay Sethupathi, who personally phoned him to appreciate his work for the 2022 film.

Surprise call from Vijay Sethupathi

While speaking at the event conducted by Galatta, Rishab Shetty recalls his conversation with Vijay Deverakonda over the phone, where the ‘Vikram’ actor praised ‘Kantara’. “It was only sir, who watched Kantara and called me. He began speaking in English and said, ‘I have watched you film. Feels really good,’” said Rishab Sheetty.Excited to receive a call from the ‘Farzi’ star Rishab Shetty replied to him in Tamil and said, “Sir, thank you so much. You calling me was enough.” When Vijay Sethupathi understood that Rishab Shetty could speak Tamil, both of them continued talking in Tamil. The talk became more friendly and personal.

Warm converation between the two

Rishab Shetty said there was an emotional feeling from the start of the call. He said, “See, I have watched all of his films and interviews, and I could relate to his journey.” He also used a funny line to explain his feelings. He said it was like the iconic dialogue, “Why blood, same blood,” from the Prabhu Deva film ‘Manadhai Thirudivittai’.

About ‘Kantara’ franchise

Speaking of their work front, Rishab Shetty was last seen in the 2025 mythological drama ‘Kantara Chapter: 1’, which acts as the prequel-sequel of the film. The movie received huge acclaim and minted over Rs 852 crore worldwide.The film goes to the past of the original story and is set in the 4th-5th century during the Kadamba dynasty. It features Rishab Shetty, Rukmini Vasanth, Gulshan Devaiah, and Jayaram in the key roles.Now, Rishab Sheety is working on his upcoming films, including ‘Jai Hanuman’ and ‘The Pride of Bharat: Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.’On the other hand, Vijay Sethupathi was last seen in the silent film, ‘Gandhi Talks’. He will soon be seen in ‘Farzi’ season 2.
