BTS reunites with ‘Arirang’ album, ends nearly four-year hiatus; Reignites global pop dominance

Global K-pop powerhouse BTS is set to reunite as a full group on March 20, 2026, marking the end of a three-year-and-nine-month hiatus from collective projects. The septet will drop their fifth studio album, ‘Arirang,’ at 1 p.m. KST, their first since “Proof” in June 2022 and the first following all members’ completion of mandatory military service. Fans worldwide are buzzing with excitement, as posters of the group popped up near HYBE headquarters in central Seoul ahead of the release.

Capturing Korean roots and deep emotions

The album title draws from Korea’s iconic folk song “Arirang,” often seen as the nation’s unofficial anthem. BigHit Music, BTS’s agency, explained that “Arirang” embodies the group’s Korean origins along with “the longing and deep love that lie within their hearts.” Spanning 14 tracks, it includes standout songs like “Swim,” “Body to Body,” “Hooligan,” “Aliens,” “Fya,” and “2.0.” The lead single, “Swim,” is an upbeat alternative pop track about tackling life’s hurdles, with lyrics co-written by frontman RM.Each song offers a fresh glimpse into BTS’s world. “Body to Body” honors the electric connection with fans during live shows, “Hooligan” reflects on their remarkable journey, and “2.0” delivers an honest take on the members’ current lives. The album came together through songwriting sessions in Los Angeles last summer, bolstered by top producers such as Diplo, Ryan Tedder, and El Guincho.

Packed schedule for BTS

BTS will celebrate the comeback with a free live performance at Gwanghwamun Square in central Seoul on Saturday, March 21, expecting to draw 260,000 fans and visitors. The event will stream globally on Netflix, ensuring ARMYs everywhere can join the party. The group heads to the U.S. next week for “Spotify x BTS: Swimside” in New York on March 23, plus back-to-back spots on NBC’s “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” on March 25 and 26.This return feels monumental after RM, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, Jungkook, and Jin finished their military duties between 2023 and early 2026. Jin was the first to enlist in December 2022, followed by the others, leaving fans eagerly awaiting this full-group moment. The hiatus allowed solo pursuits, from Jungkook’s “Golden” album to Jimin’s “Muse,” but nothing matches the septet’s synergy. As purple lights glow across Seoul and social media explodes, BTS proves once again why they dominate the global stage. ‘Arirang’ promises to blend heartfelt storytelling with infectious beats, reaffirming their unbreakable bond with fans.
