Indians are buying Irish homes: Amazon techie says quality of life improved after leaving India, Internet reacts

At a time when Indian professionals are facing increasing racial attacks in Ireland, the story of a 27-year-old techie who makes $144,000 a year and calls his life in Ireland better did not go down well with the Internet. They questioned why companies like Amazon were beinging Indians to Ireland and pushing Irish people into a housing crisis. IIT-graduate Suras Nayak narrated his story to CNBC as he said how his quality of life improved in Ireland. He said he plans to stay in Ireland forseeable future as he enjoys how easy it is to travel around. “My quality of life has improved. Now that I am in Ireland, I have gotten used to certain ways of life that I am really enjoying, which I would not have been able to get if I were back in India,” Nayak said. Dublin is very expensive compared to Hyderabad, where he was living in India. It took about six to eight weeks for Nayak to secure a visa to live and work in Ireland and Amazon covered all costs. His company provided him with temporary housing and hired an agency to help him find a house. The company also helped him ship his possessions from India to Ireland. Nayak stays in a three-bedroom house with two fellow Amazon employees. Nayak does not own a house in Ireland but his success story became an eyesore on social media. “Multinationals like Amazon are making the housing crisis in Ireland far worse. Amazon is recruiting Indians on huge wages & helping them source housing in the worst housing crisis in the history of the Irish State. Many of these Indians are then buying Irish homes,” one wrote. “Why are the Irish selling their homes to non Irish if its such an existential issue for the Irish? Even you will sell your house to the highest bidder if you put it on sale without even looking at the skin color if you got a couple thousand more than any Irish bidding for it,” one replied.
