Chennai: With the Velachery–St Thomas Mount MRTS extension now operational, residents of Velachery urged Southern Railway to introduce stoppages for express trains at St Thomas Mount station for services to and from Egmore. Members of the AGS Colony residents welfare association in West Velachery wrote to the divisional railway manager of Chennai Division and the railway minister, seeking the new halt. Residents said passengers now travel nearly 13km – 18km to Chennai Egmore, or even further to Central station, to board express trains. But, these neighbourhoods are within 2km–6km of St Thomas Mount station. The opening of MRTS line made St Thomas Mount an intermodal hub, after Chennai central, linking suburban, MRTS and metro services. TNN
