Josh Allen and Hailee Steinfeld are living two very different spotlights at once, and somehow, both feel perfectly in sync. As Allen pushed through another demanding postseason with the Buffalo Bills, Steinfeld found herself balancing the final stretch of pregnancy with one of the biggest award seasons of her career. The timing could have pulled them in opposite directions. Instead, it has only sharpened the sense that this year belongs to them.By mid-March, as Hollywood gathered at the Dolby Theatre for the Academy Awards, Steinfeld was notably absent. It was not a snub or a scheduling miss. It was a choice shaped by something far more personal. While her film “Sinners” dominated conversations, she stayed home, close to the moment that now defines everything ahead.

Hailee Steinfeld Oscars absence explained as “Sinners” shines and family takes priority

The reason behind Hailee Steinfeld’s Oscars absence was simple, even if the moment itself carried weight. She is days away from becoming a mother. Her third trimester overlapped with both the NFL playoffs and a relentless awards calendar, and there was only so much she could stretch.“Sinners,” led by Michael B. Jordan and directed by Ryan Coogler, did not slow down in her absence. The film entered the night with a record 16 nominations and walked away with several major wins. Coogler secured Best Original Screenplay. Autumn Durald Arkapaw made history with her cinematography win. Ludwig Göransson added another award for Best Original Score.Jordan, accepting Best Actor, made sure she was part of the moment even from afar. He gave “Hailee at home” a nod, adding that “she’s getting ready to have a baby right now. Thank you so much for being the other half of Stack.” It was brief, but it carried the room.Steinfeld responded in her own way. Through her Beau Society platform, she wrote, “Congratulations to the entire Sinners crew on a historic night. It is an incredible honor to have the film recognized with a record-setting 16 nominations. So proud of this team!” Later, reflecting on the experience, she admitted, “I want to use a specific moment to answer this question. But at this moment, being two days away from the Oscars, I know there is no one single particular moment that can encapsulate what this filming experience meant to me. These people have left a mark on me and on my heart that will never go away.”While her professional life hits a peak, Allen is already looking ahead to something deeper. “I’ve got siblings that have kids, I’ve got a lot of friends that have kids. I don’t know if you can plan too far in advance,” he said earlier this year. “I’m very much looking forward to that with my wife, of becoming a dad. It’s something that I will take with great pride.“But this is the most important thing I’ll ever be in my life, being a dad. And I know I love being a football player, and I love being a quarterback for the Buffalo Bills. But I’m looking forward to this one.”For all the awards, headlines, and expectations, this is the part neither of them seems willing to rush past.
