Tamil Film Producers Council announces new industry rules, demands priority for films over web series
The Tamil Film Producers Council has announced new industry rules. Actors and technicians must prioritize film projects after receiving advance payments. Working on web series during film commitments is now restricted. These measures aim to streamline productions and prevent delays. The council also plans to support small-budget films in theatres.

The Tamil Film Producers Council recently held an important consultation meeting in Chennai to discuss the future of the Tamil film industry. The meeting was called by G. K. M. Tamil Kumaran, the newly elected president of the council, and consisted of many producers, distributors, and film exhibitors. Together with the representatives of the film industry, the council took a number of resolutions to restore order in show business and organize the work of filmmakers. These actions will relieve the producers of any provocations and will instill discipline within the crew.

Priority rule introduced for actors and technicians

One of the most important decisions taken during the meeting was related to the work commitments of actors and technicians. As per Filmibeat, the council stated that whoever receives an advance payment from a producer first must give priority to completing that particular film. This rule will apply to leading actors, actresses, directors, and top technicians. The purpose will be to eliminate the clashes in the calendar, which are the main reason that makes film productions inordinate. According to the producers, such an action will go a long way in ensuring timely completion of movies and curtail financial losses associated with unfinished movies.

Restrictions on working in web series during film commitments

Another major resolution passed in the meeting was about artists working simultaneously in films and web series. According to the new rule, actors, directors, and key technicians who are already committed to films should not take up web series projects during that period. If anyone chooses to work on such projects while having prior film commitments, they will have to follow the decision taken by the council’s committee regarding their participation in future film projects. The council believes this step will help maintain focus on film productions and protect the interests of producers.

Industry leaders express hope for long-term growth

Several prominent members of the film industry attended the meeting, including producers, distributors, and theatre association representatives. Among those present were well-known producers like R. B. Choudary and Ishari K. Ganesh. Speaking after the meeting, G.K.M. Tamil Kumaran said the discussions also focused on giving more importance to small-budget films in theatres. He added that theatre owners were approached to support such projects and create more opportunities for them. According to him, these guidelines are designed to guide the industry in the right direction and could bring positive changes to Tamil cinema over the next three years.
